THE HUNTINGTON SHOWY MILKWEED SEED PACKET

THE HUNTINGTON SHOWY MILKWEED SEED PACKET

Showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa) is a perennial that produces clusters of fragrant rose-purple and pink star-shaped flowers. Dormant during winter months, spring new growth emerges from underground stems.

A great addition to pollinator gardens, this milkweed helps support caterpillars that live and feed on the plants and migrating populations of adult butterflies that feed on their nectar.

Growing instructions: For best results, plant seeds outdoors from March through June. Milkweed loves heat and will not germinate at cooler temperatures. Plant three to five seeds in each shallow hole; milkweed doesn’t mind growing close together. Keep soil moist while seeds sprout, usually two to four weeks. Young plants need regular watering until they are established; spring showers can supplement water requirements.

Plant information:

Sun: full sun

Water: low, once established

Habit: upright, spreading

Height: 4 to 6 feet

Spread: 4 feet
